What This Is

This is one new aftermarket keyed ignition switch for Ford and New Holland tractors, supplied with two keys. It replaces Ford part 8N3679C (also written A8N3679C) and is a popular universal-style replacement for the original key switch on classic Ford tractors. It is a quality aftermarket part and is not manufactured by Ford.

Fitment

This switch is a universal-style unit used across the Ford tractor line built from about 1939 through 1964. That includes the N-series (9N, 2N, 8N), the NAA and Golden Jubilee, the hundred series (501 through 901, covering the 600, 700, 800 and 900 families), and the early four-cylinder 2000 and 4000 tractors. It also fits Ford/New Holland industrials such as 1081, 1811, 1821, 1841, 1871 and 1881, and New Holland 2030, 2031, 2130 and 2131. The dash cutout and the existing switch style vary across this long production run, so match your old switch before installing.

How It Works

This is a two-position key switch: in the off position the circuit is open, and in the on position the circuit is closed to feed the ignition. On the N-series tractors the engine is cranked by a separate starter button or pedal, so the key switch itself controls ignition power rather than cranking the starter. On the later key-start models it energizes the ignition and start circuit. Because it is a simple keyed on/off switch, it is not a four-position OFF/ON/ACC/START automotive-style switch.

What Is Included

You receive one ignition key switch and two keys. No wiring harness or mounting hardware is included.

Cross-Reference

This switch replaces Ford 8N3679C and A8N3679C, and cross-references to 9840259, 1100-0959 (also shown as 11000959), 287424 and 2366-020.

Ordering Guidance

Confirm the diameter of your dash mounting hole and the style of your existing switch before ordering, since fitment spans many years of production. If your tractor uses a key-start circuit rather than a separate starter button, verify your wiring matches a simple on/off keyed switch.
