What This Is
This is a vented replacement fuel tank cap for Caterpillar machines, interchangeable with Cat OEM part number 7X2644. It is a metal-bodied, bayonet-tab cap that twists onto the tank filler neck and seals with an O-ring.
How It Works
The cap is vented, which lets the fuel tank breathe as the fuel level drops. Proper venting keeps a vacuum from forming inside the tank, which can otherwise starve the engine of fuel. This is a standard non-locking cap, not a keyed or locking version.
