This ratchet pawl is a critical component of the recoil (pull-cord) starting system found on Fits Briggs & Fits Stratton small engines. The pawl seats inside the rewind starter pulley assembly and engages the flywheel when the starter rope is pulled, transferring force to crank the engine.
