This aftermarket replacement Spring-Pawl is a component of the rewind (recoil) starter assembly on Fits Briggs and Stratton small engines. The pawl spring provides the tension needed to keep the starter pawl properly engaged, allowing the recoil starter to transfer pulling force to the engine flywheel cup during startup. A worn or broken pawl spring can cause the starter to slip or fail to engage, preventing the engine from starting.
