What This Is

This is a seal kit for the track adjuster, or recoil, cylinder on John Deere crawler dozers and crawler loaders. The track adjuster cylinder is the grease-filled cylinder that pushes the front idler forward to keep the correct tension on the track. Over time the seals inside that cylinder harden and wear, which lets grease weep past them and the track go slack. This kit gives you all of the soft parts needed to reseal that cylinder so it holds pressure and keeps the track properly tensioned again.

Fitment

This kit covers the John Deere 450, 550, and 650 crawler families across the G, H, J, K, and P series, and it also serves the 455G, 555G, and 605C and 605K crawler loaders. On the G-series machines the coverage applies to units built after serial number 745427. Earlier machines and some other crawler loaders can use this kit only if the track adjuster has already been updated to the later seal arrangement. Because that update history varies from machine to machine, confirm your model and serial number before ordering.

How to Identify the Correct Kit

John Deere revised the track adjuster cylinder seals during production, so there are two closely related kits and they are not interchangeable. This 905003 kit is the updated build, in which both of the cylinder seals share a 2.35 inch inside diameter. The earlier 905000 kit uses a smaller inner wiper seal of 1.75 inch inside diameter that seats on the end of the rod. The simplest way to confirm which one you need is to pull your cylinder apart and measure the inside diameter of the old seals. If both are 2.35 inch, this 905003 kit is correct. If the inner wiper is 1.75 inch and rides on the rod end, you need the 905000 kit instead.

What Is Included

The kit contains a complete set of the seals, O-rings, wiper, and back-up rings required to reseal one track adjuster cylinder. It does not include the cylinder body, the rod, or the grease fill fitting. It is supplied new.

Seal kits are cylinder-specific, which is why accuracy here matters more than on a bolt-on part. Before ordering, measure the inside diameters of your existing seals and check your machine serial number against the fitment above. Doing that one check up front is the surest way to receive the correct kit the first time and avoid a return.
